Vero Beach

This grand scale oceanfront home in Vero Beach was the first project by DJDS in the United States. Stretching across a double lot, construction of the 18,400 sq ft home was already underway by the time Dorothee Junkin was commissioned to design the interiors of the property. She had to hit the ground running and swiftly completed the layout so that all the building engineering could be finalized in concert with the design.
The client, a successful entrepreneur and a proponent of thinking outside of the box, envisioned a sophisticated home that did not look or feel like a typical Florida oceanfront property. She was keen on merging international and local elements to create a unique look that exudes contemporary elegance. Soaring double-height spaces as well as smaller and more private spaces are all imbued with their own distinct look and feel, while remaining connected with layered textures and artfully applied custom details.
‘Although the house is quite large,’ the client explains, ‘it does not feel at all cold or intimidating. It’s warm and inviting and has inspired both quiet nights in and fun family get-togethers, all of which come with amazing memories. For us, that’s really what makes a house a home.’
DJDS’s design for the project was recognized with the award for ‘Best Interior Design – Private Residence Florida’ in the 2015-1026 USA Property Awards.
